Our next meeting is on FEBRUARY 5th at 7pm in the Pavilion and will Celebrate Charles Dickens' birthday. As you will know, Dickens was born on February 7th, 1812 so our meeting is in his birthday week.

His enjoyment of party games is well known, so we thought we would explore some typical Victorian parlour games and card games, including his use of card games in Great Expectations. There will also be quiz activities and - most importantly - CAKE!!

The TV programme Great Coastal Railway Journeys by Michael Portillo features his visit to Broadstairs. Of particular interest is his performance of a passage from David Copperfield alongside Dickens Declaimers Val and Alan at the Dickens House Museum. The programme is available on BBC iPlayer.

The Dickens Declaimers performances of "A Christmas Carol" at the Salvation Army Hall in Ramsgate and the Pavilion in Broadstairs attracted over 100 attendees and raised over £500 for the Salvation Army and the NSPCC. You can see reviews and photos here
